John Hardy.

In collaboration with the brand John Hardy, we developed the retail concept that would extend across dozens of stores worldwide. Beginning with the brand’s first brick-and-mortar location in the River Oaks District and continuing to the flagship in NYC, the design translates the spirit and craftsmanship of Bali into an immersive retail experience rooted in storytelling, ritual, and material detail.

RIVER OAKS DISTRICT

Following the development of the office and showroom concept, the retail environment for John Hardy expanded to a series of a dozen stores globally. The first brick-and-mortar location opened in the River Oaks District, establishing the spatial language that would later carry into the NYC flagship.

CENTURY CITY

The design drew deeply from the brand’s Balinese origins. At the heart of each store, a central island fixture was conceived as a symbolic reference to Bali itself. Positioned within the center of the space, the island invites guests to circulate around it alongside a sales associate, creating a shared journey through the brand’s eight-step jewelry-making process. This guided experience reinforces the artistic, physical, and spiritual inspiration that defines the brand.

Lighting plays an especially important role in shaping the atmosphere. Linked to the circadian rhythm outside, the lighting shifts subtly throughout the day. At sunset, the environment transitions into a quiet ritual as illumination slowly softens, marking a moment of pause within the store and reinforcing the sense of ceremony and theater that is central to the brand experience.

The result is a retail environment that balances drama and intimacy, creating a space where storytelling, community, and craftsmanship come together in a layered and immersive experience.
