The Selmonsky Residence.
Long Island , NY
Set on a secluded acre, this contemporary home originally built in 1953 and rebuilt in 1983 offered generous proportions and seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The homeowners engaged Studio Mazur for a focused yet transformative intervention: a complete gut renovation of the kitchen and primary bath, along with strategic reworking of the entry, primary suite, and open living areas.
Sanded and resurfaced floors connect the home’s interior with warmth and continuity. A double-height entry and feature light fixture create a strong first impression, bringing scale and refinement to the threshold.
Primary Bath
The primary bath was fully reimagined through a complete gut renovation. Layout was paramount. Multiple iterations were studied to refine circulation, sightlines, and functional adjacencies, ultimately arriving at a configuration that feels both intuitive and elevated.
The result is a calm, cohesive retreat layered in material warmth and spatial clarity designed to support daily ritual with ease and intention.
Carefully curated selections
Within the primary bath, material contrast defines the experience. A carved stone tub establishes weight and permanence, balanced by the richness of a walnut feature wall. Integrated amenities, including a heated towel rack, elevate comfort without disrupting the architectural clarity of the space.
Primary Suite + Bath
Careful material curation was central to the transformation. Multiple rounds of selections were studied and refined to achieve a modern yet grounded palette.
Concrete, stone, and deep, warm wood tones were layered to create contrast and cohesion throughout the home. Each finish was evaluated not only for its aesthetic quality, but for how it would age, reflect light, and relate to adjacent materials.
Fixtures were selected with purpose and restraint, reinforcing a sense of clarity and continuity across spaces.
Before, and Real Impact of the after.
The kitchen and adjacent living area underwent a comprehensive transformation. Dark, moody materials were introduced to anchor the space and create depth, balancing the home’s expansive glazing and open flow.
The reworked layout strengthens connection between the kitchen, dining, and fireplace lounge, supporting both everyday living and entertaining. Integrated millwork and carefully calibrated lighting enhance the architectural presence of the space, creating an environment that feels grounded, intimate, and distinctly contemporary.
